Hi my name is Colin Padal and I'm a Knoxville city driver. I started in March of 2021. I started in Averitt as a entry-level dock worker, so I was working part-time, the evening shift from 4 p.m. to 9:30 and I worked at that job for about 8 months. During that time, they had mentioned the path forward to full-time employment which included, you know, doing well at your job, you know, minimizing your absences, and really just showing that you're dedicated to being a long-term employee. So during that time, I would uh constantly try to figure out what was a 24-hour shift at a dock this size and you do get the opportunity to learn that because there's always a chance to work extra hours. There's always a chance to volunteer for extra shifts and quickly you start to understand what a full 24 hours is here and that just helps build the enthusiasm of what you want to do as you're ready to move forward in your career. The dock-to-driver program works for me because it allows me to start out a transportation company at the entry level and it allows you to work your way up through the organization based upon the path that you choose. So when you start out as part-time associate and you work your way to a full-time associate, that's success that personal success really helps drive you to where you want to be 10 15 years down the road. My experience on the dock transitions very well into city driving, so you have to learn the basics before ever going out in the street and having to deal with some of the struggles that you have with uh overages and shortages and damaged freight so the dock experience actually proved to be very important as you transition into the city driver position. This career path has been a very interesting extension to my over 30 years of work experience, so I do believe that when corporations allow for entry-level positions it really helps build good character in their employees and I was very appreciative of that opportunity to work with Averitt at starting at entry level and working my way to full-time city driving associate. When I first started with Averitt Express, one of the attractions that I had to this company was their 20-year board and I knew that it was my job to find all of those associates and get to know them because they really unlock the key to success. It shows that this is a great company with longevity and that's what I was looking for from day one. I really look at this year and a half is just a fantastic experience. I'm very proud to be part of the paper team, and I really look forward to getting as close as I can to that 20-year board.
