For 30 years, our Greensboro, NC team has been a key market that has experienced growth and expansion. That growth has resulted in a new facility that will help us continue to serve our customers and secure our future.
The new facility (pictured below) features 104 dock doors, a Driver Support Center, four fuel bays, more than five times the maintenance square footage of the previous facility, and a drive-through truck wash.
"I think everybody is excited about the new facility," says shuttle driver Joel Weaver, a 30-year team member who was the first driver hired at Greensboro in 1990. "That's put a pep in everybody's step, and it's something we can be proud of. For the whole team, it will be a great asset to have the extra room and the capability of getting things done more efficiently."
According to service center director Bobby Adkins, there are many reasons our Greensboro team has experienced success, including our family culture, the overall success of Averitt, and having an experienced team there.
"We've been very blessed to have the experience that we have," says Bobby, who is also a 30-year team member. "As Averitt has grown, they've grown with Averitt. That's helped build the trust with our customers, they love calling in and talking with people they've talked with for 20 years, or working with drivers who have delivered to their business for 20-25 years.
The fact that we've got those associates has been a huge key in helping us grow to the point that we have."
Bobby also credits our commitment to promoting from within. A prime example of that is the fact that Bobby started his Averitt career as a driver, while operations manager Steve Wood and frontline leaders Todd Mayer, Will Parker and David Wadford began part time.
One way promoting from within continues at Greensboro is in the form of our dock-to-driver training program.
"The dock-to-driver training program has been a huge asset the last several years to allow us to recruit people to come on board," Bobby explains. "We graduated 12 or 13 associates from the program last year. It's also given associates who have been with our team for several years another opportunity. They say, 'Wow, that's a good program. I should do that, too.'"
Our new Greensboro facility puts us in position to grow even more in this important market. Armed with a new facility, our team is equipped to continue to provide a wide array of transportation services, including LTL, truckload and international, as well as pool distribution services, especially for our corporate accounts.
To accommodate all that growth, our Greensboro team will be looking to grow the size of its associate team, including positions for Truckload drivers, Supply Chain drivers and other positions.
