The annual CVSA International Roadcheck, a 72-hour inspection event, took place from May 14-16, 2024, across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. This year's focus areas were tractor protection systems and driver alcohol and drug possession, with enforcement personnel conducting over 48,000 inspections. The results of these inspections emphasize the importance of safety and compliance in the trucking industry.
During the CVSA Roadcheck, our associates were inspected 21 times, and none were placed out of service (OOS). This achievement contrasts with the overall rates reported across North America, where 23% of vehicles and 4.8% of drivers faced serious safety issues.
The Roadcheck event led to the discovery of 13,567 vehicle OOS violations and 2,714 driver OOS violations. The top reasons for driver out-of-service placements were hours-of-service violations, followed by drivers operating without a commercial driver's license and failure to provide a medical card. Defective service brakes, tire issues, and other brake violations topped the list on the vehicle side.
While many companies struggled with compliance during the inspections, our associates showcased their professionalism and dedication to safety standards. Out of 21 inspections, only four minor violations were found, with 81% of inspections resulting in zero defects. This reflects the dedication and skill of our associates, who consistently prove themselves as some of the best on the road.
With us, safety isn't just a requirement, it's a core value. Opportunities like the CVSA Roadcheck allow our associates to excel and stand out among their peers. Our ability to maintain such high safety standards during one of the industry's most comprehensive inspection events speaks volumes about us and our longstanding commitment to safety.
We're committed to maintaining this outstanding track record as we look ahead to the upcoming fall Brake Safety Week. Our associates continue to set the bar high, embodying the excellence and professionalism that defines our company. Safety isn't just a goal - it's the foundation of everything we do. We're proud of our team's commitment and achievements during the CVSA Roadcheck and are confident they'll continue to shine as the "Best of the Best" in the trucking industry.
