At Averitt, we believe it's our responsibility to take care of one another. That's a big reason why we're committed to generously giving back to the communities we work and live in. We've built an entire company culture around helping those in need. Averitt Cares for Kids, our non-profit charitable giving organization, is funded by associate contributions and through company contributions on behalf of our associates. Our Team Up Community Challenge is one of our favorite ways to donate to Averitt Cares for Kids while fostering the giving spirit we're known for throughout our local communities.
How does the Team Up Community Challenge work?
Each Averitt facility plans its own events and chooses which local organizations to serve. These service hours can be everything from volunteer projects to doing fundraisers, food and clothing drives, a blood drive and more. Many of our associates even make their Team Up projects a family affair by having their family members participate too! As long as two associates are participating in the event, the entire group's hours are counted toward the team totals, including family members'. Hours are accumulated throughout the year, with a company match of dollars for hours that results in a financial contribution to Averitt Cares for Kids.
Making a difference in 2021
We're halfway through the year and already our associates have been working hard to make a big difference:
In Laredo, Texas, our associates cleaned up litter from their stretch of roadway through Adopt-A-Highway. With their combined efforts, they collected 15 bags of litter in over two miles, resulting in 27 Team Up hours. Our Louisville team worked with St. Jude in a unique and creative way. They gathered nearly 900 pounds of Play-Doh for the children - enough to last an entire year!
Both of these are great examples on how our teammates are demonstrating their Averitt pride and ownership while showing our heart for community service.
In 2020, our associates gave over 5,000 hours of community service as part of our Team Up Community Challenge. They served 5,342 combined hours, helping 118 organizations with clothing, food and toy drives, disaster relief, mask sewing and donations, litter cleanups and blood donations. We were able to match their hours with dollars by donating $53,420 to Averitt Cares for Kids!
